From Street to Home: Cherny the Cat’s Relief Fund
He came to us during the first winter snowstorms — emaciated, freezing, and with a deep, severe wound instead of one eye.
Chorny’s (Blackie’s) story is a tale of incredible survival and transformation. When the snow hit the inclusive village, this wounded stray cat sought refuge with our volunteers. As soon as the blizzard stopped, our volunteer Vera rushed him to a veterinary clinic in Kobuleti. There, Chorny underwent complex eye surgery, was sterilized, and spent a week recovering in the hospital. This emergency rescue cost our volunteers $188.
Street life has left its mark: Chorny is a tough guy who has seen it all. Recently, he got into another fight on the property, causing his eye suture to reopen, and he has also developed a cough. He urgently needs a follow-up visit to the vet, eye treatment, and medication.
Yet, despite his rugged past, Chorny has turned out to be an incredibly affectionate, purring companion. He loves lounging on sofas belly-up, demands to be petted, and purrs so loudly it fills the whole room when his food bowl is filled. Amazingly, this fearless cat has absolutely no fear of dogs! The local dogs constantly cuddle and play with him, and he thoroughly enjoys it. The only ones who clear the way for Chorny are the other cats, whom he confidently pushes away from the bowls (he has a phenomenal appetite — eating about 2 kg of food per week!).
We are launching this campaign to cover Chorny’s past surgery costs, urgently take him to the vet for his eye treatment, and secure enough food and vaccinations for this charismatic survivor for the year ahead.
